A Visit to SunCafe

There’s no denying that California is spoiled with some really wonderful produce. On my frequent weekend trips to Ventura, I pass by orange trees, freshly-picked strawberries (I bought a case on Saturday), avocados, and much, much more.

And aside from the gorgeous produce grown in this sunny state, we have access to some pretty amazing restaurants. While it’s clear Lisa and I could talk pizza and hearty pastas all day and night, lighter plant-based cuisine holds a special place in my heart, too.

A few weeks ago, Holly and I visited Suncafe in Studio City. We had a great afternoon sampling a variety of their dishes, including the French Onion Soup (my favorite) and the Farro Risotto with Chanterelles (Holly’s favorite). And their vegan "cheese"cakes made from a cashew base put my imagination in high gear. Look for a recipe on the blog soon!

For a fun, food-gawking post, here are some photos of some of the dishes we shared. As you'll probably tell, our eyes were a bigger than our stomachs, but the leftovers were just as good, too!

If you’re in the LA area, I definitely recommend this restaurant. If you go, let me know what you think!

What are your favorite LA restaurants? I’d love to know!

  1. The last time I was in LA we got a take-out picnic for our drive home to SF at Huckleberry. It made me want to turn right back around for seconds.

  2. I LOVE Sun Cafe! Yum, one of my favorite places to visit! The owner actually opened a similar restaurant (Garden to Grill) in Sacramento and I'm so happy to have yummy food like this so close! That cheesecake looks incredible, can't wait to see your version.
